            Bucharest, like any other crowded and large city, makes it almost impossible to shop around. For spending as less time as possible and for finding all the things people need for every day life, Bucharest inhabitants are shopping either in the supermarkets from their neighborhood or in one of the hypermarkets, usually located in peripheral areas of Bucharest.

 

            The habits related to Bucharest shopping changed after 1989 (the end of the communist era) and especially in the last few years. Because many important retail chains opened super and hypermarkets in Bucharest, offering smaller prices and a larger variety of products, the amount of money spend in this “shops” grew significantly. And analysts say that this phenomenon has not ended yet, because new retail chains announced their appearance on Romanian market. But with or without new hypermarkets, Bucharest shopping can be resumed to: spending more money in less time.

            Time is the real enemy when it comes to living and working in Bucharest. That’s why many people prefer to shop at the closed supermarket. In every neighborhood there is at least one supermarket from Angst, Billa, G’market, La Fourmi, Mega Image, Univers'all or Fidelio Supermarket. For smaller prices and a larger range of products, a visit to the hypermarkets is mandatory. But you have to be prepared to stay in line and wait if you choose to shop at Auchan, Carrefour, Cora, Kaufland, XXL, Metro and Selgros. For specialized products that are related to home design, Praktiker, Bricostore and Mr. Bricolage are very helpful.
