National Museum of History

          The National Museum of History, housed in the former Bucharest's main post office, presents a collection of artifacts and jewelry that date from prehistoric to modern times. Opened in 1972, due to the effort made by university professors and researchers, the museum grew constantly through donations, new acquisitions and archeological discovers. The museum's exhibitions are spread over 8,000 sqm in 60 display rooms. The finest exhibit is the replica of Trajan's Column in the central lapidarium.


          Since 2002, restoration works have been carried out at the Romanian National History Museum. Together with the restoration of the historical building, a wide process of reorganization of the main history exhibition started. Therefore the museum displays nowadays 2 main exhibitions, the National Treasure with more than 3.000 gold and precious stones objects and the Lapidarium Collection with the Trajan’s Column replica. Other temporary exhibitions are: Dacia Augusti Provincia. Crearea provinciei (until the 15th of January) and Medalii si insemne masonice. Istorie si simbol (until the 31st of March).

          Visiting hours: Tu-Su 9-17 (October - March), 10-18 (March-October).

          The entrance fee:  3,06 RON, 1,53 RON (retired, students), 1,02 RON (pupils). Free entrance every last Friday of the month.
