Bucharest Dinamo

Bucharest Dinamo Football Club is one of the three major clubs from the capital of Romania, along with Bucharest Steaua and Bucharest Rapid. The clubs' colors are red and white and due to Bucharest Dinamo' symbol (two red dogs), the nickname of the Bucharest Dinamo team is the Red Dogs.

Bucharest Dinamo

The Bucharest Dinamo Football Club was one of the three sections of the Dinamo sports club back in 1948, when it was founded. Bucharest Dinamo was the result of the union between "Ciocanul Bucharest" ("Hammer"), named "Dinamo A" and "Unirea Tricolor MAI", known as "Dinamo B". Initially, Bucharest Dinamo was represented by the two teams and in 1948 the name of Bucharest Dinamo was used for the very first time.

The real debut of Bucharest Dinamo was in the 1947-1948 championship edition. Few years later, in October 1951 the modern stadium Dinamo (where the white-reds obtained great victories) was inaugurated. In 1955, Bucharest Dinamo received the first recognition, with 15 titles conquered and in 1956, Bucharest Dinamo made the debut in European Champions Cup, a premiere for the Romanian football, obtaining the first qualification after the famous game with Galatasaray. But in the same year Bucharest Dinamo lost the national title, entering into a shadowy corner.

The second title came in 1962 and the third title for Bucharest Dinamo one year later. In the 1970s, the national team was "full" of Bucharest Dinamo players. A great success for Bucharest Dinamo came in 1975, when Dudu Georgescu, one of the team players, received for the first time in Bucharest Dinamo’s history "the golden bot" (for 32 goals). In 1983, Bucharest Dinamo became the first Romanian team in the semifinals of CCE, a valuable step into the international arena.

Bucharest Dinamo

In 1992, Bucharest Dinamo won the fourteenth title after 34 matches and no defeat. It was the last national title that Dinamo conquered until 2000. But some Bucharest Dinamo players (Prunea, Mihali, Cheregi, Selymesi, Dorinel Munteanu) were in the Romanian National Team in 1994 when they played in the World Cup. Bucharest Dinamo is the last team that won both the championship and the cup in the 2003-2004 season. In the 2005-2006 season, Bucharest Dinamo acceded to the group stage of the UEFA Cup.

Currently, the squad has valuable players like: Daniel Florea (on loan from FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Cosmin Barcauan (on loan from FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Vlad Munteanu, Florentin Petre (captain), Ianis Zicu (on loan from Internazionale), Florin Bratu (on loan from FC Nantes) or Liviu Ganea. But we shouldn’t forget to name other famous players of Bucharest Dinamo that made history such as: Mircea Lucescu, Dorin Mateut, Ioan Andone, Mircea Rednic, Michael Klein, Bogdan Stelea, Ionut Lupescu, Ioan Ovidiu Sabău, Florin Răducioiu, Florin Prunea, Dorinel Munteanu, Viorel Moldovan, Adrian Mutu, Marius NiculaeIonel Dănciulescu or Cosmin Contra.
